Out with the old

The crew from Cascade Flooring (awesome guys...see more on this below) was here today to remove our old hardwood floors and the carpet in the dining room, living room, and master bedroom. In an attempt to stay out of their way and minimize dust/dirt exposure, Brady, Romey, and I were confined to Brady's nursery and part of the upstairs. Sandy stayed in the office and slept through the entire demolition. Surprisingly (and thankfully), Brady slept through much of it too. It was great...such a good boy! I took a video so that Brett could see what our day was like, but I might as well post it here so you can too:

Here's some before shots of the rooms all emptied out:

and what our family room currently looks like with the living room couches and other miscellaneous items in there. (Brett put most of the stuff in the basement...we again had the "How did we get all this stuff? Do we really need it?" conversation. Needless to say, there has been lots of trips to Goodwill this week!)

Here's the demolition in process:

I mentioned above how the crew was awesome, here's one of the reasons why- Brett ordered the hardwood online from some company in California (not from Cascade Flooring, who were the installers). The wood was delivered while the crew was here. I asked the delivery truck driver to put it in the garage. (Brett was planning on bringing it in to the house when he got home from work so that the wood could acclimate.) The driver refused and said for liability purposes, he could only drop it in the driveway. The lead installer (and also owner) of Cascade Flooring says, "Don't worry, we'll do it for you." Awesome! Not only did they save Brett this back-breaking work, but it was also supposed to rain this afternoon (and it did!). They moved all 5200 lbs. (according to the shipping invoice) of the 60 boxes inside for us!

Here's what the house looks like now down to the sub-floor:

This is how it'll be for the weekend while the wood acclimates. The installation crew is set to return on Monday.
