Our family was blessed today, Friday, January 15, 2010 with Sylvie Rae Luhring at 11:08 AM. She arrived one week ahead of her expected due date, and is a healthy 8 lbs 12.7 oz (which they rounded up to 13) and 19 3/4 inches long. She is the sweetest little thing and has spent today sleeping and making the most precious newborn sounds.
Yesterday I had been feeling minor cramping all day long. I monitored more significant contractions from midnight until 2:00 AM. We called the doctor @ 2:30 and were told to go to the hospital.
We were admitted at about 3:30, but were only 2-3 cm dilated and about 80% effaced. Thankfully they gave me my epidural @ 6:00 AM.
Happy Mommy with pain management :)
This helped me accept the contractions that resulted from the Pitocin administered at 8:00 AM and the breaking of my water at 8:30 AM. Both these things did the trick and I was 7 cm by 10:00 AM. I began pushing at about 10:45. This time around was SO much easier, but none the less AMAZING. We have a truly awesome doctor, wonderful staff, and an encouraging Daddy who championed us for the 15-20 minutes that delivery took. Sylvie did her part too! Dr. Duggal commented that she had never seen a baby wiggle and corkscrew around so much. She's already a sweet girl helping out mama! I got to hold her for a good 15 minutes or so before they placed her in the warmer and took measurements. Of course I wept the entire time...what miraculous moments! She laid in the warmer so sweetly making those precious precious sounds and just sort of chatting away with her Daddy and the nurse who was taking measurements.
Love our doctor...and Love Auntie Monz for referring us to her!
We think she looks similar to her big brother and find it amusing that they were both born at 11:0 something. :) (But Sylvie was 11:08 AM and Brady was 11:05 PM.) Sylvie is 1/4 inch shorter than her brother was, but weighs almost 11 oz more than he did at birth. The L&D nurse told me siblings are usually at least a 1/2 lb larger than the first born. Unfortunately the hospital is not permitting visits from children under the age of 18 during this cold and flu season in an effort to combat the threat of the H1N1 virus. I SO miss my son and I cannot wait for him to meet his beautiful little sis this weekend!
